This app is focused on tasks or events starting Today or Tomorrow, which syncs with all versions of Doit.im. You can either use it alone or together with Doit.im.

We've made it very simple and easy to use. Let's take a quick look at it.

INSTALL "Today & Tomorrow"

Having downloaded it, you get a DMG file, double-click it and see its logo as follow:

Just drag the logo of "Today & Tomorrow" into "Application". After that, double-click the logo to open the app.

Enter your Doit.im Username and Password. Haven't an account? Just click the link to register an account.

OVERVIEW on "Today & Tomorrow"

Main window

When you log in, you'll see the icon in the menu bar and the main window of "Today & Tomorrow" as follow:

Add Tasks/Events

You can add a Task or an Event by clicking the top right buttons.

A Task refers to an item with Start Date but no specific time, while an Event refers to an item with specific Start Time and End time.

Modes

And you can switch between Today and Tomorrow, and pick a view mode among the three: All, Tasks, Events.

View a Task/an Event

You can view the details, including its Notes and Time by clicking the task/event bar.

Edit, complete or delete a Task/an Event

And you can just click the title and other contents in the view page to edit them. (And if you want to arrange it into a date other than Today and Tomorrow, you can find the task/event in any version of Doit.im after syncing the data of this app to Doit.im.)

Also, as it is in Doit.im, you can check the checkbox in front of a task/an event to complete it.
And if you want to delete one, just press "Delete" in your keyboard.

And the Tab support for adding and editing would be your great love if you're keen on pure keyboard typing.

Sync

Click the icon on lower left to sync with Doit.im.

Shortcuts, Quick add, and Logout

You can set the shortcuts or log out your account by entering into Preference, which you can see through clicking the menu bar icon.

You can see the default shortcuts for "Open Main Window" and "New Task (Quick add)" and edit them as you like.
By using "New Task (Quick add)", you can add a task to the day you choose successively by inputting and clicking cmd+s.

With the whole architecture rewritten, the performance and stability of Doit.im for Android have been improved a lot.

Release Notes:

2. Optimized data synchronization way. The sync process now runs in the background and won't disturb your operation any longer.

What happens after Processing?

When you finish analyzing and processing, decisions on“Stuff”in Inbox have all been made:

You’ve dropped trash into “Trash” box;
You’ve put those which don’t need any actions now but may need in the future into “Someday” (or maybe “Scheduled” box if you want to be reminded of the thing);
You’ve decided to put the materials into “Reference” box (which is a custom box in Doit.im);
As to the things you want to take actions, you’ve specified if it is a project (a multi-step task). And if it is, you’ve divided it into actions by ways like brainstorming and known exactly what the Next Action is; if it is not, you’ve also found its Next Action. And then, you’ve processed the next action based on the 3 directions:

You get it done if it takes less than 2 minutes.
You delegate it to others if someone else is a more appropriate person to do it.
You decide to put into your own “Next Actions” or “Scheduled” box if you need to do it yourself and it takes more than 2 minutes.

It has to be figured out again that Process and Organize are not done within one step. Processing is mostly a thinking phase, and once it’s complete, one needs a way to organize the output.

4. Organize

It’s vital to keep in mind that things to be organized have to be the actions that are “actionable”.

1) Directions of Organization

David Allen gives seven primary places to keep the outputs, and provides us guidelines to make the places work . In Doit.im, we’ve preset corresponding boxes to help organizing the actions (or you can also add Custom Boxes by filtering ):

a) A Project list (We have “Project” boxes in Doit.im, you can add or edit projects.)
b) Project support materials

It’s been suggested in “Process” section that you can add a custom box “Reference” for materials that are not related to any project;
As for project-related material, you need also to add custom boxes such as “Doit.im References”. Later, we’ll support “Notes” for projects, and more features to make notes more convenient in both tasks and projects.
As to the paper materials, we suggest you set corresponding folders in real life, and make records in the projects in Doit.im.

c) Calendar actions -- Doit.im contains both “Scheduled” task lists to give you an overall view of all the tasks with time set, and “Calendar” to give you clear view of to-do and completed tasks on certain days.
d) Next Actions -- In Doit.im you can now set up a custom box “Next Actions” by filtering (refer to “Process” section). And later, we’ll add Next Actions with more considerate features.
e) A Waiting for list -- In Doit.im, when you forward a task to others, you’ll find the task would automatically go to “Waiting for” box. (“Waiting for” in Doit.im is actually a context automatically applied to tasks forwarded to others, so, you can no longer set it when you pick a receiver.)

2) Project

In the “Process” Section, it’s been figured out that if you get a multi-step task from Inbox during procssing, then

Transfer it into “Project”. (At the moment, you need to copy and paste your task into a newly added project in Doit.im. We’ll support the direct transfer soon.)
Write down actions as a result of the thinking process.
And then categorize the next actions. (We’ll talk about it soon in this part.)

GTD has no requirement on sorting of the projects. But we’ve made it sorted alphabetically in Doit.im so that you can find the target project more easily. (BTW, Contacts and Contexts are also sorted this way.)

If there is sub-project, you can do it this way:

Apply different tags to the actions belonging to different projects and filter then by each tag. (We’ve made an example in our previous piece “How to apply "Project" of GTD in Doit.im” )
And there is another way, you can also make the sub-project as a project, and add a new project named in format like “Project - subproject”. (These are ways to use Project currently. We’ll enhance the project and tag features. )

Checklists

Many things would be much easier if we have checklists. For example, we create a checklist named “Travel checklist”. Then each time before we go traveling, we just need to check if everything is ready.
You can create one project for each checklist in Doit.im, or one for all, and then categorize them with tags. (As we said, we’ll make it much simpler.)

3）Categorize next actions

“Next actions” are vital section. Having decided which are the next actions, we need to trace:

things to be done on a specific date or time -- Just pick that date or time in Doit.im.
things to be finished as soon as possible (ASAP actions) -- Put them in “Next Actions” box in Doit.im. (The current way is to tag the action with “Next” and put it into “Someday”, and then set a custom box “Next Actions” with the condition “tag = Next” )
things waiting for others to complete -- In Doit.im, once a task is forwarded to others, it would go to “Waiting for ” automatically; If you delegate a task but not through Doit.im, then you need to write it down in the system and put it in “Waiting for” box to trace.

a) “Scheduled” VS “Next Actions”

GTD regards Calendar (which means both “Scheduled” and ”Calendar” in Doit.im) as a sacred place, only the following three task types can be put in it:

time-specific things
date-specific things
information to be picked on specific date

All the other tasks should be put into “Next Actions” so that you wouldn’t mix them up with the time/date-specific things and miss the latter.
Of course, if it’s an important thing, but you haven’t decided yet, you can list it at specific time in several days so to remind you of making that decision.

“Tickler” file in GTD VS “Scheduled” in Doit.im

David regards it a good way to manage time/date-specific actions with “Tickler” file, which consists of 43 folders. He checks the folder with current date marked. Things become much easier in Doit.im: you just pick a date/time for a task when you organize it, and that task would come to “Today” box automatically on the Start Time you’ve set.

While for “Next Actions” tasks, you need to check after you’ve finished all in “Today”
box. Sure you can set a reminder for some the tasks.

And, yes, if you set a “Deadline” for a task in any box, it’ll come to Today automatically on the Deadline date.

b) Organize “Next Actions” with Contexts

It’s been approved through David’s many years experience that Context is the best way to manage “Next Actions”.
In Doit.im, you can set a context for each actions. A context can be a place, or tool, or related person. For instance, you have to call someone to finish something, you can set “Phone” or “Call” as its context. Thus, when you’ve nothing in hand but a phone, just open your phone and find everything you can do with your phone and make the calls.
If you have many tasks sent by others and need reading, then set a context “Reading”. You can read it whenever you have time.

c) Waiting for

“Waiting for” is a special category of “Context” which are used to store tasks sent to others. Currently, Doit.im locate “Waiting for” on the home of the app to both emphasize its importance and make it convenient for your to trace to tasks sent.
As we said previously, tasks forwarded to others through Doit.im would come to “Waiting for” automatically; and also, as for tasks delegated but not through the system, you can add them here.

4）Non-actionable tasks

As for these tasks, we’ve mentioned above that trash can be thrown into Trash box, things that may be done in the future can be dragged and dropped into Someday, and materials can be put into a custom box. (refer to “Process” section)

Thus, you’ve finished the “Organizating” work, and everything are in their own place now.

How to apply "Project" of GTD in Doit.im

As for last post "Implement GTD with Doit.im - (2) Process", some of our users said "...but we have to convert multi-step tasks into projects and divide it into specific actions before processing" and asked how to use Doit.im to divide the project into actions".

As to the first word, sorry we didn't make it clear that in David's book, "Processing" is just that you 1) get rid of the trash; 2) finish the two-minute thing; 3) send to others if necessary; 4) think about the tasks and analyze them into actions and understand what the next step is. That is, in the Process phase, as for the longer-than-two-minute tasks and multi-step tasks, you make the decision but haven't organized them into your system. So the 'converting into project' step is also contained in processing.

And as to the second word, a project in GTD represents any multi-step task, that is to say, you can regard it as a small project that directly contains actions, or as a big project which contains both small projects and actions. Even, in a software like Doit.im, you can apply it both as short-term goals or life goal.

First, during your processing, you get a multi-step task, then you can convert it into a project. Now in Doit.im, you'll need to copy the task and paste it into the project just added in Project mode. We have to confess that's not so convenient, but soon we'll add the feature of converting a task into a project directly.

Then, if it is a small project, good, just add actions under the project.

But, for more than once, it is a big project, that is, you have still small actions under the tasks you've added under a project. Then, add a tag for each task, and later you can filter the tasks with tags. For example, you want to "build a house", make it as a project. And when you add actions under it, you find it has to be divided into "Paint the walls" "Put in new kitchen" etc, then you can apply some actions with the tag "Paint the walls", and thus you can see all the actions applied with "Paint the walls" by clicking the tag on the top.

You can also add your goal as a project, either short-term or long-term, put them in Someday box, and divide them in the project page.

We've had the development plan in the next version to improve the task editing page so that tags adding will become more convenient. And also, we'll add sub-task feature to make the project feature much better.

We hope Doit.im is helpful not only in making your current work effective , but in making your life organized, and finally helping you realize your life goal.

Emphasis and Complements on Collect

Get it All Out of Your Head

Before you processing your stuff, pleae make sure you have finished the whole collecting job. That is, now you have nothing left in your mind that may attract your attention.

Keep in mind: Throw the "stuff" into the In-basket ("Inbox" in Doit.im ) even if you think it's "not that important". If it's not dropped into Inbox, you think "there still could be something important in there", and it's "controlling you and taking up more psychic energy than it deserves." So drop everything into Inbox, big or small, personal or professional.

Just do Collecting in the Collect Stage

Be sure to focus on collecting in the Collect Stage, and please don't process or organize a task during the stage, unless it's a task that has to be handled before the completion of Collect. And if the latter is the case, finish it immediately; or, please complete the Collect first -- You'll soon have chance to handle all the stuff. If you're now collecting stuff by using the Quick-add box of Doit.im, and find the currently collected thing is really urgent, but it's not able to handle it at the moment, or you want to tell yourself that you have to handle it first after the collecting, then just add a priority for it by simply clicking "p", each click of which represents of raising the level of priority.

2. Process

What's Process?

Process is to get "In" (In-basket/ Inbox) to empty, which means "identifying each item and deciding what it is, what it means, and what you're going to do with it".

Process and Organize are connected closely. But the "stuff" you've collected can not just to to get organized, since they're not yet actionable and you've not decided what to do next yet. So you need to analyze and process them first. And then you'll organize the actions to be taken based on the decisions you've made.

Preparation before Processing

Since Organize phase will start just after the Process, we have to do the preparations before processing.

    •    Make sure both software and hardware of the system you use works well;
    •    Set up related categories -- i.e., set the "Contexts" in Doit.im. For your convenience, we've had "Home", "Office", "Phone", "Computer", "Errands" by default, you can add new ones or delete the existing ones as you like.
Thus, you can do the organizing once the analyzing and processing is finished.

You can start processing now, but keep in mind the guidelines.

Processing Guidelines:

    •    Process the top items first: Decide what the thing is and what actions is required and then dispatch it accordingly, one by one, to "empty" the Inbox, without avoiding dealing with anything in there.
    •    Process one item at a time: The focus on just one thing forces the requisite attention and decision-making to get through all your stuff.
    •    Never put anything back into "in": "The first time you pick something up from your in-basket, decide what to do about it and where it goes."

Processing

The key processing question: "What's the Next Action?"

And the processing is to decide what executable actions can be taken to reach the aim of the task.

How to Process and How it's Realized in Doit.im:

On the action in front of you, is there any action to take?

1) If there is no action, then the thing will be one of the following:

    •    Trash -> In Doit.im, click the "Delete" button to throw it into Trash box.
    •    Items to incubate ( There's nothing to do now but there might be later.) -> In Doit.im, if you might do it someday, but you haven't decided when, put it into "Someday"; if the event itself has a specific time, but you want to make the decision just before the event starts, just pick a date and put it into "Scheduled" so that it will come to Today on the exact day you set.
    •    Reference materials -> In Doit.im, you can write the material in Notes of a Task and put the task in "Someday" and then add a tag, say, "Reference", and then set a custom box with the filter " tag = 'Reference' ". And afterwards, you can put everything you classed ad "Reference" into the box by adding the tag. Meanwhile, you can set a related project each of them, say, "Design". Thus, in the custom box, you can group tasks by project to view separately.

2) If there is an action, then decide what exactly it is.

It is emphasized that the Action Step Needs to Be the Absolute Next Physical Thing to Do.

a) Once you've decided what the next action is, you have three options.

    •    Do it (If the action takes less than two minutes).
    •    Delegate it (If you're not the most appropriate person to do the action). -- In Doit.im, just Forward to one or more contacts.
    •    Defer it into your organization system as an option for work to do later. -- In Doit.im, put the action with specific time into "Today", "Tomorrow", "Scheduled"; and as to the action without specific time but you want to take as soon as possible, you can add a tag "Next" and set a custom box named "Next Actions" with the filter " Tag = 'Next' ", and then attach the tag to each action you want to put here while dragging the action into Someday. And, you can set a Context for each action so that you can group the actions in Next Actions box by Context.

b) If it is a multi-step task, then:

Transfer the task into a Project (Project in GTD is any outcome you're committed to achieving that will take more than one step to complete.) -- We have Project list in Doit.im.
Be focused in analyzing all the actions based the aim of the project. (You can do that by using a mind map)
Having decided all the actions and the exact next action of the project, you can follow a).

Tips:

Generally, when you focus on thinking, you can get the next action in dozens of seconds. For instance, for "Wedding Invitation", you can get the next action "Write down a guest list that I want to invite" after a few seconds' consideration, and then "Call the guests to invite and make sure how many can come". But as for complex tasks, David suggests us to have a brainstorming. We also think that's a great idea to use a mind map and brainstorm.
Meanwhile, in applying David's categorizing tasks into different folders, we've had custom box in Doit.im . Custom box is a great feature, which can be created by adding different filter conditions now. And we'll make it more powerful.

Implement GTD with Doit.im－ (1) Collect

Overview

As a time managing sofeware, Doit.im is designed and developed based on the principles of Getting Things Done by David Allen from the very beginning. So here, we'd like to state the five stages of GTD in a simple way first so as to make all better understand GTD and better use Doit.im.

Getting Things Done is a mature theory concluded by David Allen on personal and organizational productivity. As David said in the book, "The power, simplicity, and effectiveness of what I'm talking about in Getting Things Done are best experienced as experiences, in real time, with real situations in your real world. "

Generally, GTD methods are based on two key objectives: 1) capturing all the things into a logical and trusted system outside your head and off your mind; and 2) disciplining yourself to make front-end decisions about all of the 'inputs' so that you will always have a plan for 'next actions' that you can implement or renegotiate at any moment.

Thus, GTD's more than a to-do list. It guides people to make their minds focused and turn uncontrollable stuff to actionable "next actions", thus leads people proceed to the pyramid of success, of their values and lifetime goal. That's also what Doit.im hopes to reach.

Horizontally, the management on workflow by GTD can be divided into 5 stages, and David Allen finds it helpful to separate these stages. So here, we'll also talk about how to implement GTD with Doit.im in separated steps.

How to Implement GTD with Doit.im

1. Collect "Stuff"

GTD Theory

"Stuff" is anything you have allowed into your psychological or physical world that doesn't belong where it is, but for which you haven't yet determined the desired outcome and the next action step.
And Collect is the start point and most important step emphasized by GTD from the beginning to the end.

Principles of Collecting "Stuff" :

Just collect during the Collect stage, don't do any processing;
100 percent capture unfinished things to move all "stuff" into a trusted system out of your mind;
Minimize the number of collection buckets;
Make sure you empty the collection containers regularly (This principle will be embodied in the next step)

Doit.im's Implementation of GTD

On the upper left of the box list in Doit.im stays Inbox.

In Inbox, there is a Quick-add box, which is showed in nearly all boxes actually, but we suggest you fix the collecting act here in Inbox.

Since the aim of Collect is to capture all things off your mind, successive collect without interruption should be the best way to do it. And with the Quick-add box, you can successively input and enter to collect all the to-dos in your mind.

Meanwhile, you can see the "+" (New Task button), which is designed to add single-step, actionable event.

To separate the 5 steps, we recommend you use the Quick-add box rather than New Task button. Only when you've put all the things into a trusted a system outside your head, and then get notified to join a meeting at 2pm next Monday (and what you need to do is just go and join it with no need to prepare or do anything else), then, just cick the "+", pick a time (2pm next Monday) and context (say, Office), fill in some notes maybe, and save it.

We don't suggest you use the "+" to collect in other cases. Because if you do this, you would have the desire to fill in other details since all the input columns are unfolded. But during the collecting, the "Stuff" are not "Actions", they are not actionable. But this time, you want to arrange it at the moment but still have other things in mind, so you might just pick a time for it and when the time comes, you would find it so difficult to handle and have to re-process, which would cost you more time and energy. For instance, I collected a task named "Travel in Western Europe", it's simply not actionable and needs processing and organizing to be divided into actionable "Next Actions", say, "Check the airline ticket price""then call if Lynn would like to go together", etc. And in another aspect, due to the processing occurs before the completion of collecting, you're likely to forget something.

So, New Task button could be used only when your head is empty and the thing you're collecting is an actionable "Next Action".

Doit.im for web has improved in several aspects this time, little but very sweet.

1. In Signing Up:

"Re-enter Email" is added in the signing up page: Since we find that 1/4 of the users who told us they didn't receive the confirmation mail actually spelled their email wrongly, eg, gamil instead of gmail. So, in order to decrease such mistakes, we add "Re-enter Email" below "Email", which is learned from facebook.

2. Having Signed Up:

When signed up successfully, everybody just wants to experience first. to meet the request, we've supported you to do that before confirming the registered email address.

3. When you're in the app...

Sometimes, people go to experience the app before confirming the registered email address would forget to do the latter. To avoid this, we sweetly give the tip at the lower right when you're inside the app.

We're trying to make the user experience of Doit.im to be sweeter, thus to better embody the principle of GTD. :)

Doit.im for Android 2.4.7 Released, and Recent Roadmap

Doit.im for Android 2.4.7 Contents updated: ( Please download at https://i.doit.im/download)

1. Fixed: Fixed the data parsing error;
2. Added: Added the feature that tasks in a custom box can be grouped by Start Time.

For those who's already met the data parsing problem, please log out and login again when updating to the new version so that the wrongly parsed data would be updated to be correct. Others don't need to login again.

2.4.7 is the last version for 2.4 Series.
And next version would be 2.5 Series. We're redesigning the tech architecture so that both performance and stability will be greatly optimized. After this, we'll be focused on the improving of user experience, and prepare a simple and basic todolist version for users with low-resolution (resolution lower than 800*480, and CPU lower than 800MHZ) mobile phones.

Here it comes just after the Valentine's!

To meet the requests of people who just want a simple list with only Project and Start time, we've released our Mini Doit.im now. You can log in the version with your Doit.im account, and keep all other versions sync with the mini version.

Let's get a glance at the mini version.

1. Add Tasks

1) To add a task starting Today, just input a title and click Ctrl+Enter or click the "Add" button, and a task'll be added into Today by default.

2) To add a task with a project, just select one in the project list, click 'New Project' to add one if the expected item doesn't exist yet.

3) You can change Start Time any time you want.
When 'Scheduled' is picked, date can be modified manually in the given format (Currently only yyyy-mm-dd and yy-mm-dd are supported).
If you haven't decided when to do it and it's not so important, put it into Someday.

Tasks added into Tomorrow or Scheduled are both shown in Scheduled in Doit.im mini and will come to Today automatically on the exact day.

4) Add a series of tasks with the same project and Start time:

When you've set the Project and Start Time in the adding box, the two will be kept unless you change them. So if you want to add a series of tasks with the same project and Start time, you just need to set the two once and for all, and then just add task and click 'Ctrl+Enter'.

2. Edit Tasks

1) Open and Edit: You can click the title of a task to open it and edit it.

2) Fold and unfold
When one or more tasks are unfolded, you can fold them together by clicking the orange-marked area.

3) Complete a task

Just check the checkbox in front of the task title you want to complete, then you'll find it under Completed part.

4) Delete a task
Also, when you hover your mouse over a task, you'll see the trash icon, click it to delete the task.

3. Task List

There are two task lists: Uncompleted and Completed.

1) Uncompleted includes Overdue tasks, Today's tasks, Tomorrow's tasks and Someday's tasks, with each of the classification able to be folded. And the project name show in front of each task title.

2) Completed includes tasks completed Today, Yesterday, and Earlier.
All the completed tasks can be archived in your web version (not mini version).

Tips & Tricks: How to Sync Doit.im to Google Cal

To sync to Google Calendar is listed as one of the top features requested by our users.

Now we've supported the sync.

Before describing the operation of setting to connect your Doit.im account to Google Cal, we'd like to figure out that it's characteristics and why we makes it so.

1. It is a single-direction of sync, i.e. it's supported to sync Doit.im tasks to Google Cal but not vice versa. Since Google Cal would not manage all tasks for you but Doit.im will. So we makes it so that you can manage tasks in Doit.im and view it in Google Cal when it's more easily to access Google.
2. It syncs the newly added or newly edited tasks but not the old. And we are discussing about the old tasks now.
3. Tasks of web app with scheduled start date or time (i.e., tasks in Today, Tomorrow, Scheduled and Completed with start date and time) can be seen in Google cal, tasks without start time can't be shown in GCal.
4. As for task types, repeated tasks aren't shown in Google cal currently.

Now we'll describe how you can set to connect your Doit.im app to Google Calender:

1. Click the person icon at upper right, you can see 'Settings' button.

2. Click the 'Settings' button, you'll come to the Preference page, where you can see the Synchronization part.

3. Click the 'Sync to Google Cal' button, you'll come to Google account page. If you've not logged in, there would present you a login page.

4. After logging in the Google account you'd like to connect to Doit.im, you'll see the authorization page. Then just click the 'Grant access' button.

5. Finally, you'll get a tip that your Doit.im account and Google Cal account has been connected. And there shows a mark 'Connected' after the 'Sync to Google Cal' button in Settings.

6. If any time you want to disconnect the connection, just click the 'x' after 'Connected'.

Everything is easy, right?

Since the first day when Doit.im was born, we've been devoted in making people better enjoy their lives via a great task management app.

On the way, a good many number of enthusiastic users encourage us and support us, give us large quantities of suggestions to Doit.im go better, some even come to our forum and write a long piece of articles just to tell they love the app and hope to donate some money so that we can pay our developers to go on with the great app.

Many thanks to you all, though we've rarely expressed the thanks. Communication is something missing in our part. We remember at the very beginning of the Doit.im's release, many users came to us and gave us advice and feedback, but for a long time, they didn't get reply since there were so few people in our team and we had no hand to deal with the warm advice and feedback, sometimes, we were even too busy to remember the thing. They must have been disappointed and wondered if the team is trustworthy. We are, we promise.

Now we communicate with our users in our forum at http://support.doit.im/, reply the tickets. Still, as for the suggestions and advice, we've put down all of them, and we always hope to complete the feature and improve the performance before replying to our users, which may be a mistake itself, since we've missed the chances in communicating with our users in the process.

Doit.im AIR version Data Transfer Notice

Please be notified that Doit.im AIR version Data will be transferred to Doit.im server from 16:00 to 18:00 GMT this Sunday (Jan 23, 2011), during which period AIR version will be unable to use.

Web 2.1 & Android 2.0 Released, iPhone 2.0 in Review

I. Web version has been upgraded to 2.1, with the following changes:

1. Tag sorting added;

2. No need to switch over to another page when jumping between Project, Context, Contact, Review and Archiver so as to speed up the response rate;

3. Setting changed to a popup so as to make it faster;

4. Some bugs fixed.

II. Android version has been upgraded to 2.0, which can be synchronized with the web version, and will be updated faster next.

III. iPhone version, also upgraded to 2.0 and able to be synchronized with the web version, has been handed in for Apple's review on July 12. If things go smooth, it can pass the review this week.

Next update for the web version will be on Aug.10.

Offline Support and Free Policy about Doit.im

Some of our users are wondering how we solve offline problems. So here, we would like to answer this question and tell more about our plan.

1. Offline support now:

Our AIR version can still be synchronized with iPhone and Gphone in a month's time. So, if you want to use offline version in this month's time, you can still use AIR version.

2. Offline support later:

1) Our windows client version will be launched in about a month, but definitely before the AIR version stop, and iPhone and Android version will also be updated and able to sync with the windows client version at the same time. We hope everybody would know that we abandon AIR version because we want to provide better experience to our users.

2) Our web version will support offline as soon as possible, a little bit later than windows client's launch. So users under other operation system don't need to worry, either.

3) And next, after our windows client version released, we'll immediately go on to develop the Mac client version, which will, of course, support offline.

3. Free policy:

All the versions of Doit.im will be free of charge forever.

To Our Most Beloved Users -- At the Release Time of Doit.im 2.0 Beta

Version 2.0 (Beta) is finally here. It has made you wait for so long. So I have to, first of all, on behalf of the whole team, apologize to our users. And even now, after two months’ delay, we are still not satisfied with the current version, which has just been presented in front of you. Thus, we plan to have V2.0 and V1.2 run in parallel for one month.

Data: All the data before May 24, 2010 have been successfully migrated. But as the implementations of the repeat strategies between the two versions differ too much, we didn’t and won't do that migration. Before we stop the service of V1.2, we’ll provide you with the service to import data stored after 0:00 May 24, 2010. So, please take it easy if you are still using V1.2 now.
Client: V2.0 (Beta) contains only web version. We’ve stopped the development of AIR version. And the Windows version, which will be released next, will be realized in native ways so that problems on performance and global short-cut keys will no longer exist then. The result of our current test shows it occupies less than 30M of the memory when being used, less than 5M when minimized. And, Mac version is also in our plan list.
Phone: iPhone/Android version will go public at the same time when V2.0 are launched formally. Besides, versions for Windows Mobile 6.5 and Window Mobile7, Symbian, Meizu will also be released successively. As for other platforms, we’ll make the decision based on our users’ requirements and the resource allocation.
Tablet PC: We’ll give iPad maximum support and try to make the version available as soon as possible. Meanwhile, we’ll take into account other tablet PCs.
Multi-languages: We’ve added traditional Chinese this time, and will support more next.
The “Irritating” Certificate: We’ve changed the certificate, hoping it would bring you no trouble any more.
Browser: With the consideration of performance, we made most of the UI with CSS3, which is not well supported by IE and lower versions of some other browsers. So we will launch a version specially for those versions of the browsers, which need much more pictures.
Charge: We'll go on with our free policy though our AIR version will stop in a month，the versions of Web/Client/Mobile will be all free.

About Doit.im’s Future and our Team

It’s been over half a year since the launch of our last version. So many things happened during the time. In October 2009, we suffered a fierce accident, and the company where Doit.im belonged could no longer continue. The great team, in great grief, released Version 1.1 on the last day of October. In the following days, we hesitated. However, when we opened the mailbox and read the mails from our most beloved users, when we logged into the forum and found the messages left by our most beloved users, we felt we were still needed. You are there, with us. So, the few of us chose to hang on.

God helps those who help themselves. We were finally recognized by VC. And Doit.im was reborn. We have reorganized our team, and are now continuing fighting for the best service to provide to our users.

OUR PROGRESS on the WEB VERSION

Numerous users are waiting for our Web version of Doit.im, some have even asked whether we are still alive. WE ARE, of course. Thank you for all your support and trust.

To ease you of the feeling Sean McArthur told us as "it feels kind of like a gamble", we would like to take his advice to tell our users the progress.

So far, after times and times of modifying our ideas and designs, we've finally made the final desicion of this new version. It will be sweet as the main selected color turns to be chocolate.

In the new version, you can select your view mode by choosing Time, Context, Project, Friend and Archiver.

Today will still be the default entrence, and, next and tomorrow will still exist.

The function of Waiting for, which has long been being waited by most of our fans, is included in Context as an eternal context and cannot be deleted.

And, we have No Context box to make your organization more convenient.

Archiver is a great place whenever you want to write your weekly or monthly report. The only thing you need to do is remembering clicking the Archive button in Completed box.

Meanwhile, you can review your to-dos for Today or This Week in Review, in a new and more practical way, in the clean, organized page.

Click “Invite friends” at the bottom, then you’ll find the two ways there.

1. Add your Gmail and password there to import all the contacts from your Gmail, including your own. You can select some or all to invite and the Invitation Mail will automatically sent to them.

2. You may also add a friend’s mail directly to invite him/her so that he/she will receive the Invitation Mail.

The step is very simple:

Just add your Gmail address and password in “Sync to Google Calendar” page (the icon at bottom left), once and for all.

Then, the only thing you need to remember is, you have to make sure your Doit.im have syned to the server before you can see your tasks in Google Calendar.

Solve the Certificate Problems

When you begin focus on writing all the things down, your brain works quickly, a flash light may hit you at any time, it is essential to have a quick record tool. In order to prevent the omission of details of any ideas, but also record everything quickly, Doit.im provides a Quick Add column in Inbox, you can input a to-do and return to save it and go on to record another one.

In addition, when you are working on other page except Inbox in Doit.im and a new idea suddenly hit on you, such as ” Buy vanilla and chocolate ice cream in supermarket” or ” Enjoy a hot pot this weekend,” press shortcut keys Ctrl + n or click on the New button on the bottom of the page, a new input box will pop up, write down your plan and make arrangements.

2. Process

The second step of GTD, which is making quick decisions of the task with provided information: Do I need to do it as soon as possible? Is it really necessary to complete the to-do? Am I the perfect person to complete it? Chen should be able to finish it faster and better. Concert on 15th this month? I should make a schedule for it! You timely go through and Inbox to prevent you from distracted by them. Often there are a pile of unprocessed to-dos in Inbox, and you may depressed, “My God, I have so many things to do!” An important principle GTD is “two-minute principle” that insists anything can be done in two minutes should do it now. Actually there are a lot of to-dos that can be done in few minutes in your life and work, for example, call and book a flight. And to-dos in Inbox will decrease greatly.

In Doit.im , your thinking is guided with convenient tools and clear classification. Need to complete the detailed planning for the product ASAP? The boss will check it in two days. Today, let us begin! Drag and drop it in Today. You can also set a Due date. Right, that is two days later. Doit.im tells you there are only two days left, you have to hit on your road now!

To obtain the driver license this year? It is too busy recently, I should pend it. So drag and drop it into Someday and have a look at it when you have time.

Select a Spoken English class? Yes, as soon as possible. Create the to-do, and drag & drop it into Next, where lists all the items you need to complete ASAP.

Need to delegate to Chen? Just enter Chen’s email in “Forward to”. If you drag & drop the forwarded to-do into other boxes (example: Tomorrow), then Chen will see in his client that the to-do is in the appropriate box (example: Tomorrow).

GTD recommends some lists to track focused issues and projects.

1. The next action, the focus of your work, important items that need to be complete ASAP.

2. Projects, multi-step items, a vertical task management method.

3. Someday/Maybe, items that you may have time to deal with.

The Next in Doit.im is your focused list, where lists all the ASAP (as soon as possible) to-dos.

In Projects in Doit.im, you can create and manage your projects. Drag to-dos in other boxes in to a project, and the to-do will be identified as belonging to the project. Each to-do in a project can be separately arranged, to ensure both flexibility and practicality.

La méthode GTD de David Allen est vraiment utile. Donc, nous ne pourrions pas aider à nous consacrant au développement d’un bon outil pour mieux appliquer la méthodologie. Nos Doit.im 1.0 ( http://doit.im/ ) est devenue publique le 30 septembre. Nous espérons que cela fonctionne pour vous.

Doit.im est une application web basée sur le temps et l’application de gestion des tâches sous la direction de la méthodologie GTD avec ses cinq phases du déroulement du travail. Elle peut guider les utilisateurs à mieux appliquer la pensée et l’action de GTD dans leur travail et vie.

Il stocke et interagit information par le biais du serveur central, et prend en charge le stockage de données en ligne, ne laissant aucune menace pour la sécurité.

Il peut fonctionner sur de multiples plate-formes, notamment Windows, Linux et Mac OS, et peut se synchroniser avec différents clients en ligne pour s’assurer que les utilisateurs obtiennent les informations correctement sur n’importe quel client de n’importe où.
